Charbel Announces Uncontested Victory of Several Municipal Councils
Interior Minister Marwan Charbel announced on Wednesday that several municipal councils in the districts of Akkar, Besharri, the Western Bekaa and Jezzine won uncontested.
A statement released by Charbel’s press office said the councils won after the deadline for announcing candidacies expired at midnight Monday.
Akkar got 12 members in the municipality of Jebrael, nine in al-Majdal, another nine in Barbara and 12 other members in al-Hayshe.
In Besharri, 12 Bazoun municipality candidates won while in the Western Bekaa the two municipalities of Zlaya and Yohmor got respectively nine and 12 winners.
As for the district of Jezzine, the municipality of Anan enjoyed the victory of nine members.
The municipal by-elections are scheduled to be held on Sunday.
