Opposition MP Butros Harb considered on Friday the photo that As Safir newspaper published on its front page as “evidence of the campaign staged by the March 8 forces on the March 14 coalition” over U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman’s visit to Beirut.
He mocked what he called a “caricature picturing him as bowing to Feltman,” noting that he was “welcoming the guest and directing him to his seat.”
As Safir published on its front page a photo of Harb picturing him bowing to Feltman while U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly was standing next to him.
“We are used to bowing only to God, and we will not give up our convictions and dignity,” Harb said in comments to Voice of Lebanon radio (100.5).
He told the radio that Feltman’s visit was aimed at “stressing the U.S. support to the Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability and safeguarding it against the Syrian repercussions.”
Feltman arrived in Beirut on Tuesday night and held talks with top Lebanese officials.
