Geagea: Aoun Wants to Get Biggest Cabinet Share, Not to Retrieve Christians Rights

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Wednesday noted that Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun “does not want to retrieve the rights of the Christians, but rather to get the biggest share possible (in cabinet) in his quest for his lost role.”

“Let us suppose that we replaced (interior) minister Ziad Baroud with (energy and water) minister Jebran Bassil, would the rights of the Christians be restored? Would the naming of three or four neutral ministers by the president deprive the Christians of their rights?” Geagea wondered.

Commenting on recent media reports about alleged trafficking of weapons from Lebanon into Syria, Geagea said “those raising the issue should officially report it to the relevant authorities … in order to unveil the truth, especially that the rumored quantities of weapons are considerable, being allegedly smuggled through ships, trucks and cars.”

Geagea called on the judicial and security authorities in Lebanon to tackle the issue, describing it as “serious.”

He criticized the delay in cabinet formation, ruling out that the new government would be formed anytime soon.

The LF leader slammed “the other camp, which does not have a political project for Lebanon,” describing it as “a group of parties negatively affected by the demise of the tutelage authority.”

“They have no principles in common,” Geagea claimed.
