Roland Chbeir's Killer Attends his Funeral, Later Confesses to Crime
The murderer of Roland Chbeir has been arrested after he confessed to the crime to the Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau, reported the National News Agency on Sunday.
It said that Charbel S. confessed to murdering his friend Chbeir for financial reasons.
Voice of Lebanon radio later identified the assailant as Charbel Shallita.
NNA added that security forces found the hunting rifle that the murderer used in the crime.
He had borrowed the weapon from a friend.
In addition, they found Chbeir's mobile phone, as well as blood-soaked clothes in Shallita's possession.
Chbeir, 22, was found dead in the trunk of his car on Friday in al-Fidar, Jbeil.
Shallita told the investigators that he had lured Chbeir to the area of al-Jleiseh in Jbeil where he told him that he wanted to sell him a piece of land.
When they reached the area, he shot him twice in the back before dumping him in the trunk of his BMW.
He then headed to the Laqlouq region to hide the body.
Upon reaching the area however, Shallita realized that he would not be able to return home without the car, so he decided to turn back and leave the car parked near Pastor hospital.
The killer had even attended the victim's funeral where he sat with Chbeir's family members, said NNA.
The victim was laid to rest on Saturday in funeral that was attended by representatives of President Michel Suleiman, Interior Minister Marwan Charbel, Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel, and Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, as well as MPs Walid Khoury and Simon Abi Ramia.
Interior Minister Marwan Charbel later told VDL that Shallita was among the pallbearers at the funeral, revealing that his family, residing in Fidar, was evacuated from the town with security protection.
