A restaurant in the Beirut district took advantage of Tuesday's severe traffic jam, that kept Lebanese drivers stuck in their vehicles for several hours, and sent messages encouraging the stranded citizens to order fast food requests by promising delivery to their 'car step'.
Lebanese drivers were stuck in their vehicles for several hours as Army preparations for Independence Day added severe delays to the usual morning traffic.
Hours later, the Army released a statement apologizing for causing such traffic.
Lebanon is known for its heavy traffic particularly during rush hours, but Tuesday's traffic jam excelled all others. Employees were unable to arrive to work, travelers missed their flights, students took the opportunity and studied in waiting. Others jolted out of their cars for a breath of air or to give a hand in organizing the the traffic but to no avail.
Traffic was diverted from several entrances to Downtown Beirut including Gemmayzeh, a tunnel near Phoenicia Hotel, and the St. George area, to make way for the transport of military vehicles that will take part in Thursday's celebrations in BIEL.
The northern entrance of Beirut saw severe traffic jams coming from Jounieh, Antelias, Jal Dib, Nahr el-Mot, Karantina, and the Charles Helou Avenues as well as Baabdet.
