General Prosecutor Judge Hatem Madi tasked on Tuesday the Central Criminal Investigations Bureau with examining audio recordings implicating al-Mustaqbal MP Oqab Saqr in the transfer of arms to Syria.
The state-run National News Agency said that Madi tasked the bureau with studying the audio recordings of Saqr to take the necessary decisions in light of the Lebanese regulations and the bilateral treaties with the Syrian government.
The MP admitted on Monday that a three-part series on recordings published in al-Akhbar newspaper were authentic.
The taped conversations reveal that Saqr and Abou Nehman, a “leader in the armed Syrian opposition,” were carrying out a weapons deal.
Abou Nehman requested 300 RPGs, 250,000 Russian bullets and 300 guns among other things to be delivered to Aazaz, Tal Refaat and Aleppo's countryside.
The two men then agree to, “as usual,” hand the weapons to Syrian opposition members that go by the names of Abou Baraa and Abou al-Nour.
Saqr, in his most recent interview on Future TV on November 7, rigorously denied any involvement in arming the Syrian opposition, demanding his accusers “to sue him if they find any evidence proving his engagement is such activities.”
