The members of the Joint Parliamentary Committees will convene on January 8 to discuss the electoral law, the parliament's administrative department revealed on Wednesday.
Lawmakers said after their weekly talks with Speaker Nabih Berri that the AMAL Movement leader encourages these discussions and is optimistic about their outcome.
"We hope these discussions will break the ice between different parties in the country,” Berri expressed, urging the MPs to meet intensively, up to several times a day.
"By communicating and cooperating Lebanon can avoid the dangers threatening our stability and bravely embrace the future,” Berri said.
March 14 MP Robert Ghanem will head these meetings.
After a boycott of dialogue sessions and parliamentary work in the past couple of months, March 14 lawmakers have accepted Berri's proposal of residing in a hotel near the parliament in downtown Beirut, as a safety precaution, to meet with the Joint Parliamentary Committees' members and discuss the 2013 electoral law.
The opposition alliance had announced following the assassination of Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau head Maj. Gen. Wissam al-Hasan on October 19 that they will be boycotting the national dialogue sessions and the government's work, awaiting Prime Minister Najib Miqati's resignation.
