Hizbullah Slams Mustaqbal over Arsal Incident, Accuses it of Creating Sectarian Strife

Hizbullah MP Nawwar al-Sahili lashed out on Tuesday at al-Mustaqbal movement following accusations that the party was involved in the deadly ambush on the army in the border town of Arsal, saying it is trying to convert the incident into a sectarian strife.

“Al-Mustaqbal accusations are fabrications. They didn't hesitate to accuse Hizbullah of being behind the incident minutes after it happened,” al-Sahili told reporters gathered at the parliament.

He warned of incitement as it will demolish the country and all its factions, voicing solidarity with the army.

The lawmaker called on security sources to run a thorough investigation in the incident to detain the accomplices and refer them to judiciary to be tried.

The army has sealed off all the entrances to Arsal and brought in reinforcements as part of measures aimed at arresting more members of an armed group that targeted the patrol last week, leaving two soldiers dead.

The patrol was in the area to pursue a suspect wanted on terrorism charges.

“If Hizbullah was involved in the incident it wouldn't hide it,” al-Sahili noted.

Al-Mustaqbal MP Khaled al-Daher accused Hizbullah in several comments to media outlets of being involved in Arsal ambush.

He pointed out that seven members of Hizbullah were killed in Arsal and were transferred from the region and buried in Hermel and Arabsalim.

On Saturday, Hizbullah held a funeral for Hussein Mohammed Nether in the southern town of Arabsalim, a member who died while “performing his Jihadi duty.”
