Wahhab Hits Out at Suleiman, Miqati, Backs 'Settlement Based on Hariri's Return'

Arab Tawhid Party leader Wiam Wahhab on Friday announced that he supports the return of former premier Saad Hariri to power “under certain conditions,” while lashing out at President Michel Suleiman and Prime Minister Najib Miqati.

“Najib Miqati did a good thing by resigning, because the obstruction of cabinet sessions, as proposed by the president, contains a constitutional violation that amounts to grand treason for which he must be put on trial,” Wahhab said in an interview on LBCI, in the wake of Miqati's resignation.

“I'm with a political settlement based on Saad Hariri's return to the premiership under certain conditions,” Wahhab added, without elaborating.

He stressed that “the attempt to impose the 1960 (electoral) law contains an attack on the constitution and coexistence.”

And as he revealed that “an agreement was reached in cabinet over a law, but no one has mentioned it,” Wahhab added that “Miqati might return to the premiership after being contacted by certain ambassadors.”

“The timing of Miqati and Suleiman's step is suspicious because maybe someone has promised them to extend their terms,” Wahhab said.
