Saniora Hits Back at Aoun: Let Him Give Himself a 'One-Way Ticket'

Head of the Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc, former premier Fouad Saniora, on Sunday snapped back at Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun over the latter’s recent remarks against ex-PM Saad Hariri and “the policies of ex-PM Rafik Hariri.”

“We have recently heard remarks full of spite, malice and tension, such as those voiced by someone who said he had given (ex-)PM Saad Hariri a ‘one-way ticket,”’ Saniora said of Aoun, without naming him.

“I don’t know if he said what he said because he owns a travel agency or because he wanted or wants to give the premier (Najib Miqati) a ‘religious edict’ to issue such a ticket,” Saniora added.

“I tell those delusional people that their real aim is to give one-way tickets to millions of Lebanese … but wouldn’t it be easier for that person to issue a one-way ticket for himself,” he went on to say.

Saniora vowed that the Lebanese people will remain defiant.

Addressing Miqati, Saniora added: “Were you designated as a premier in order to eradicate the legacy” of Rafik Hariri.

Commenting on the fact that the new government comprises four ministers who hail from the northern city of Tripoli, Miqati’s hometown, Saniora said Tripoli was not in need of “cosmetics.”

Tripoli "rather needs someone to truly represent its true essence and patriotic and Arab spirit which is committed to Lebanon and the Taef Accord. It (Tripoli) was expecting someone to seek to prevent strife rather than to ignite it, whether intentionally or unintentionally,” Saniora added.

He called on President Michel Suleiman and PM Miqati to shoulder their “historic responsibility” in preventing any vengeful acts against the members of the new opposition or any civil servant affiliated with the March 14 camp.
