Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi on Sunday criticized politicians for covering up the crimes committed by the force of arms, and for deepening divisions among the Lebanese.
During his sermon in his summer seat of Diman, al-Rahi said: “The political acts that cause and worsen differences and divisions are unacceptable.”
He also said that some politicians were “paralyzing constitutional institutions, violating laws and covering up the violations committed by the forces of arms.”
Such acts were threatening internal stability, he added.
Last month, al-Rahi slammed both the March 8 and 14 alliances for “tarnishing Lebanon’s image.”
In a harshly worded sermon at Our Lady of Lebanon basilica in Harissa, al-Rahi called for “national reconciliation among politicians.”
The patriarch also accused the two foes of preventing the parliamentary elections from taking place, paralyzing the formation of a new “strong and capable government,” and pushing the Lebanese people in Syria's war.
