Miqati: Regional Developments Must Force us to Fortify Lebanese Internal Scene

Pirme Minister Najib Miqati stressed on Tuesday that the critical developments in the region should force the Lebanese to fortify the internal scene against any dangers that might spread into the country

He asked during a Ramadan iftar: “How can Lebanon benefit from getting involved in the regional developments?”

“This is what drove us to disassociate ourselves from the United Nations Security Council statement condemning the violence in Syria,” he explained.

“This position was met by understanding by the international community and members of the Security Council,” the premier noted

Lebanon could have prevented the Security Council from issuing the statement, but it didn’t, allowing itself to remain objective on the regional developments, “because no Lebanese can support violence and stand against reform,” Miqati added.

“At the same time, no Lebanese can possibly believe that Lebanon may affect international decisions or the internal situation of any country,” he remarked.

“So why should we involve ourselves in matters that will harm Lebanon’s unity?” he asked.

“All the Lebanese should unite in order to allow the government to perform its duties and lift the burdens off the people,” he stated.

Addressing the developments in Syria, Miqati said: “The bloody violence, which Lebanon has experienced for years, cannot be the solution to the conflict in Syria and it cannot substitute for dialogue.”

“On this note, we must praised Saudi King Abdullah’s call for the halt of bloodshed in Syria and the speeding up of reform,” the prime minister noted.

Tell this to the Syrian people who lost their men, children, husbands, and wives. I am sure they will remember your stances Mr. Prime Minister. It seems you link our destiny and stability to that of the Assad regime and not to the Syrian people. He is going, but they will remain. If i am reading this correctly, you will also go soon.

“All the Lebanese should unite in order to allow the government to perform its duties and lift the burdens off the people,” he stated.

How can you ask the Lebanese to unite around your government if it is not representative of the society major sects, factions, and parties. Who and "how much" in your own sect do you represent huh? Oh, it does not matter who you represent coz u are a centrist yeah?

Mikati is playing a dangerous game. By staying an equal distance between the protestors and the Assad Regime, he is confirming the Assad version of reality that both are culpable for the carnage taking place in Syria. This is fiction and fantasy. It is 99% Mukabarat killing of unarmed protesters. There are even reports that Mikati's erstwhile allies, Hezbollah, has been active in Syria killing Syrian soldiers who refuse to kill their fellow countrymen.
Mikati's position is worse than amoral, it is immoral. As both the West and Arab countries alike condemn the butchery, the moral outrage is universal. Those who stand silent stand with the butchers and when the butchers go down, those who have stood with them will go down with them as well.
People of Syria, all Lebanese, not even a majority of the Lebanese are with this coup government. The Lebanese have felt the Syrian mukabarat boot on their necks too. The Lebanese are with you before anyone else.

And Mikati turns his back in the name of preserving Lebanese "unity"? Is that right? Let us interpret his words correctly. With these guys, Lebanon = whoever is speaking. So the interpretation is he does not want to harm the unity between Mikati and Hezbollah. If Mikati speaks out, Hezbollah will cut his tongue and then there will be disunity between Mikati and his tongue, or Mikati and his head, depending upon where the Hezbollah knife strikes.

Well, at least you can't say that Hizb-Nasrallah and their puppet PM are too stupid to learn from their masters: Friends, Lebanese, Countrymen – say hello to the Lebanese PATRIOT act, written on the same terms as the Bush act of the same name circa 2001, or of the McCarthy act, and so on, and so forth... And this is just the beginning, mind you! Kiss your freedoms goodbye...
