Report: Aoun's Visitors Warn of Dangerous Consequences on Lebanon if He is Not Elected President

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun will “not wait forever” for the Mustaqbal Movement to agree to his nomination for the presidential elections, warned his visitors according to al-Liwaa newspaper on Saturday.

They cautioned: “Lebanon will enter a dangerous phase should the MP not be elected president.”

“Such as phase will eliminate all the accomplishments that have been achieved in the country and may be even bring about its ruin,” they added.

This warning came in light of a meeting on Tuesday between Mustaqbal Movement leader MP Saad Hariri and Foreign Minister and FPM official Jebran Bassil.

Bassil had stated that there can be “great salvation for Lebanon” should an agreement be reached with the movement.

“We will however remain in this poor state should we fail,” he remarked.

“No one knows what the future will hold in case we fail,” warned the minister.

Talks with Hariri covered other issued besides the presidential elections, he revealed.

Hariri and Bassil met in Paris on Tuesday.

They stressed the importance of avoiding vacuum in the presidency and holding the elections on time.

The constitutional deadline to elect a president started on March 25 and ends on May 25.

The first round of the elections was held on May 23, but neither of the two candidates, Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea and Democratic Gathering MP Henri Helou, received the votes of 86 lawmakers that are necessary to emerge victorious.

The second round was set for Wednesday, but it failed to be staged due to a lack of quorum after the majority of March 8 alliance MPs, including those of the Change and Reform bloc and except those of Speaker Nabih Berri's Development and Liberation bloc, boycotted the elections.

Dangerous Consequences on Lebanon if He is Not Elected President .......
Just like there was to be dangerous consequences if Berri was not elected speaker of the Parlaiment, and just like if M14 were to form a Cabinet without M8, just like all other warnings .... simple blackmail by armed gangs.

The general "will not wait forever".
You've only a few years left so I would say this not your choice.

"No one knows what the future will hold should we fail"
We know what it would hold should you win that is why you are not welcome.
It also sounds like a threat given M8's track record we could possibly see some car bombs accidentally exploding. Funny that.

“Lebanon will enter a dangerous phase should the MP not be elected president.”... the FPM stooges are taking propaganda lessons from their boss Nasrallah... agree with us or els.

looks like the finger on mohamad raad, always giving threats

and this from a man who said that he is consensual, and not not present himself unless all parties agree.

yet another proof that this claoun is a fake, a psycho and worst of all a double agent

I would prefer a presidential vacumm rather than see this lunatic and mentally unbalanced Aoun as president

Thumb cedre 03 May 2014, 12:35

agree with u, the way Aoun is acting we'll play against fpm in next parlementary elections...

Thumb -phoenix1 03 May 2014, 12:46

Years ago I wrote that the general's sole dream is the seat, the seat and the seat. But irrespective of what his visitors may have to say, the general's wait will be forever. When the new president will be elected, it will be neither Geagea, nor Aoun, but someone that will surprise everyone.

Constantine
you really think that aoun's election will be a reward to the Christians? are you for real dude? If Aound wants the Christians rewarded just tell him to disappear for good from the Lebanese scene. It would be the best rewards the Christians can ever get

So... None of you folks are a tad bit skeptical of "visitors" claims ? What a poorly written and purposeless article, and what a bunch of sods you all are for not at least taking it with a grain of salt.

The Christians will not allow their rights to be thwarted again. This is out chance and we will capitalize on it once and for all. No one will choose our president and the next election law will show that no one will also choose out m

Thumb -phoenix1 03 May 2014, 18:10

Constantine, I do agree with you, WE should elect our president, but then the president is all of Lebanon's. Though I am with you on this, still, there's no escaping the fact that the president will have to remain consensual, as far as the eye can see, this remains our onlu option. But neither Geagea nor Aoun ca aspire to consensual-ism, I am sure we've got lots younger people who can talk to all sides without any impediment.

He wants to be the "consensus candidate", yet, more than half of the Christians do not want him and now he is engaging in threats and intimidation tactics against other parties in order to win their voluntary consent to his candidacy?? Really?? Consent is won through threats?! This man has no commitment to democracy, freedom, or to Lebanon or to the Lebanese. He is committed to himself and to the advancement of his immediate family at the expense of everyone and everything else. He is willing to bring the country down to destruction to get his way.

Thumb beiruti 03 May 2014, 16:35

However, he is such a little man, his holding his breath until he gets his way will only bring about his own destruction. Lebanon is much, much stronger, she has withstood greater dangers than that emanating from this little bald headed man.

Missing constantine 03 May 2014, 16:42

You guys live in a world of hallucination. We have had 2 parliamentary elections and in both elections just prior to them the ur it had it that Aoun lost his Christians voters. And I. Both elections results he reigned supreme. Whether you like it it not Aoun is the political Christian leader and all other sects must reply the Christians will . Aoun must be president and if he is not we will finally make others pay the price for stripping the Christians rights away.

Missing coolmec 03 May 2014, 17:46

Constantine
aoun MUST be president?? why is it a must? I realize that all our politicians are worthless and corrupt but why choose a corrupt and lunatic for president? Lebanon is already in its coffin we need to resuscitate the country not put the final nail on that coffin

Thumb beiruti 03 May 2014, 18:01

Mr. Constantine, who is in a state of hallucination? You are not in a discussion with your fellow Aounis where in the information bubble all facts are contorted to meet your definition of truth. How did Aoun do well in the 2009 elections? Mainly by Hezbollah directing is Shia confessionalists in Jezzine to vote for Aoun rather than Berri's AMAL ticket and in Baabda Aley, having the Shia there vote Aoun and the Shia in Kserwan vote Aoun. It was Shia vote propping up Aoun. And to be honest Sunni vote carried the day in Zahle for the LF in 2009. So please, stay factual.

danger to lebanon if he is by sorry circumsatnace elected president...look at what he did in from oct 1988 until he fled lebanon in 1990. he took on the syrians in a renewed battle which he had no backing for and nearly brought the country to complete annilliation. go back further and look at his record as Commander of the Lebanese Army in 1982 when the stuff really heated up in Aitat-Souk Al-Gharb. The stupid Americans, of which I'm one, believed him when he said he was "being over-run" in Souk al-Gharb, causing the US to send huge missiles into the area to no avail, I might add. Long story short, he's a manipulator, a puppet for "foreign interests" in Lebanon, and not to be trusted. God help Lebanon if he becomes president---Lord knows that's been his dream since 1988 or even earlier.

Christian MP's in Parliament:

M8 Christian MP's = 29
M14 Christian MP's = 35

Which bloc should choose the Christian President, the one with 35 Christian MP's, or the one with 29 Christian MP's?

Missing people-power 04 May 2014, 08:30

Sorry, my mistake, here's the correction:

M8 Christian MP's = 27
M14 Christian MP's = 37

Which bloc should choose the Christian President, the one with 37 Christian MP's, or the one with 27 Christian MP's?
