Nigeria Win Bronze Medals on Penalties

Nigeria won the bronze medals at the 2015 African Games football tournament Thursday by beating hosts Congo Brazzaville 5-3 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in the third-place play-off.

The Nigerian Dream Team had a perfect record in the post-extra time shootout with Daniel Etor, Sodiq Atanda, Kingsley Sokari, captain Erhun Obanor and Christian Pyagbara scoring.

Kader Bidimbou, Silvere Ganvoula and Julsy Boukama Kaya converted Congolese spot-kicks, but captain Sagesse Babele had his shot saved by Emmanuel Daniel.

Congo won the first of 11 African Games (formerly All-Africa Games) football tournaments 50 years ago and Nigeria are also former title-holders of a competition now confined to under-23 players.

Surprise semi-finals winners Burkina Faso and Senegal meet Friday in Brazzaville with the gold medals at stake.
