FM: Lebanese govt. has guarantees Hezbollah won't join war

W460

The Lebanese government has been promised that Hezbollah will not intervene in the Hamas-Israel war, caretaker Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib said.

The minister told Asharq al-Awsat newspaper, in remarks published Monday, that Hezbollah would only intervene if Israel started the war.

The interview took place in Washington before Hezbollah carried out an attack Sunday "in solidarity" with Hamas, which launched a surprise assault on Israel the day before. Hezbollah fired on Israeli positions in the contested Shebaa Farms border area and Israel retaliated and warned Hezbollah against getting involved in the fight on its southern flank with Hamas.

On Monday, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati stressed that the government's priority is to maintain security in south Lebanon.

The PM met with Bou Habib and the latter said after the meeting that "we do not want Lebanon to join the fray and we are trying to avoid that."

The Israeli army said Monday it has "killed a number of armed suspects" who crossed the border from Lebanon. "Additionally, Israeli helicopters are currently striking in the area," the army added.

Media outlets said the infiltrators are Palestinians after prior reports claimed they were members of Hezbollah. Only minutes later, Hezbollah denied involvement.

It said the resistance has neither clashed with the Israeli enemy nor attempted any infiltration into Israel.

So if Israel bombs us, war becomes reality. The LAF better shoulder its responsibilities and defend us, we don’t need Hezbollah to do the job.

Lebanon fired missiles into Israel w/o any provocation form Israel. Lebanon also sent fighters to infiltrate into Israel. It is Lebanon that is seeking a war with Israel.

Lebanon hasn’t fired anything and hasn’t sent anyone, the people who crossed the border are Palestinians attempting to reclaim their homes. And I may add, it’s their God-given right.

Dude but what if Hezbollah joined the war without telling you or even Hassin Nasrallah, you know, like the last time? After all it's not like Hassin decides what Hezbollah does, that is way above his paygrade. The orders come from Tehran. Hassin is a just the Hezbollah mascot, like Ronald McDonald, Aleksandr Orlov or Martin the GEICO Gecko, but with less say than them.

Woops Never mind, I guess they did it without telling Boo! Habib.

Naharnet reported that Lebanon fired rockets into Israel. Whatever excuse you make for the infiltrators, Lebanon allowed them to enter Israel.

Lebanon hasn’t fired anything. When Zionist kids spit on Christian worshippers, is it Israel spitting? When I saw earlier a video of Zionist kids torching a young Palestinian child simply because he’s Palestinian, is it Israel doing it?

Looks like you're one of the Lebanese war-mongers.

They came from Lebanese territory, therefore Lebanon is to blame. The LAF should be patrolling the border.

Lebanon hasn’t fired anything:

Senior Hezbollah official Sayyed Hashem Safieddine on Sunday warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that “this battle is not only Gaza’s battle,” hours after Hezbollah attacked Israeli military posts in the occupied Shebaa Farms.

Well da, Hezbollah isn’t Lebanon. Ask anyone here, Hezbollah only answers to Iran’s supreme leader, the grand ayatollah, not even the Iranian president.

Hezbollah is the only organized military defense force in Lebanon, which makes sense given that Shia Muslims are the majority of Lebanese yet are shunned by the so-called Constitution.
