Unknown assailants kidnapped a 21-year-old Lebanese in eastern Lebanon and asked for a 2-million-dollar ransom in return for his release, the National News Agency reported Monday.

NNA said the kidnappers seized Hussam al-Besharrawi around 2:00 am while he was driving his Range Rover in Ras Baalbek.

The vehicle was found parked on the side of the main road, the agency said.

It added that the abductors later called his father, who is a rich contractor, and asked for the ransom.

Blame the Victim!!! You guys are nuts.
A culture of "Money for Nothing" combined with no real authority on the ground and easy access to weapons lead to such terrible acts. Every person, rich or poor, should feel safe anywhere in Lebanon.
As long as there are armed factions that enjoy political support, Lebanon will continue to detoriarate and will never recover.

Thanks for proving my point. "An area renowened for its mafias and cutthroats" proves that the government should not allow such areas to exist whether it is Ras Baalbek, Dahieh, Bab Et-Tebbaneh, Palestinians camps, etc...
I'll repeat that As long as there are armed factions that enjoy political support, Lebanon will continue to detoriarate and will never recover.

blaming the victim is typical of m8 guys!
instead of looking st root of the problem, i.e. the state within a state that allows for such things to happen and remain unpunished.
even if he bought the money from illegal money that does not allow for this to happen.

Missing ulpianus 04 June 2012, 15:52

That is not the root of the problem FT.

The Root of the problem is how so many people can have weapons in the country, why Bekaa has turned into a totally lawless area ( it was not perfect under the previous governments either), and how can there be kidnaps in the middle of the day?

Where is the "police", Isf, or even the army itself?

That is if we are talking on a national leve.

If we are talking on the individual level, yes the 21 years behaviour could be labeled as stupidity taking in consideration the circumstances of the area.

I agree that it´s annoying with the blaming of m8 for every single criminal act in Lebanon but we cannot deny that the security situation has dramatically worsened in the country during last 1-2 years.

first off, I wish you do not use insults at all times stupidly like a kid.
second who said it is hizbushaitan who did this?
what I said is plain and simple (even for your weak mind to understand), and that is the proliferation of weapons while hizbushaitan covers those guys, there will be acts like this.
read properly, then come in and try to talk.

we never had problems like that previously: I remember I go my first car when I became 18, and that was not a problem whatsoever in those days, because there was a state.
I will tell you something you most probably do not know:
in Lebanon, around 1974, you would be penalized for crossing the road outside the allowed place. and that is WALKING in the street, not with your car.
so the proliferation of weapons deteriorates the status of the state, which then becomes the current situation.

Thumb geha 04 June 2012, 16:18

bu the way FT: what is your opinion on nasrallah's ultimatum during his last speech?
they want more powers which can only come from the Christians once more, or else....
hope you can provide an opinion on this.

It takes so little to bring the Lebanese to a fight. No consensus here but unity, i.e: unity in fighting each other for as little as nothing.
