Speaker Nabih Berri is reportedly planning to launch a new initiative to bring the viewpoints of Premier-designate Najib Miqati and Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun closer.
An Nahar daily said Wednesday that Berri is working away from the media spotlight to solve the dispute between the two officials.
Miqati has welcomed such an initiative and stressed that he holds onto his role as prime minister-designate to form a cabinet that is not imposed on him by parliamentary blocs, said An Nahar.
According to the newspaper, Miqati has ruled out the formation of a de facto cabinet and that he is working on receiving the consent of all the parties on a 30-member government.
His circles denied to An Nahar reports about a scheduled meeting of Miqati’s aides to assess a speech that Hizbullah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah will deliver on the occasion of Liberation Day on Wednesday.
“The assessment process by him (Miqati) is ongoing and is not linked to any event,” the circles said.
