Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday condemned the violence that left dozens dead in Egypt as a massacre.

"In Egypt, democracy was massacred, national aspirations were massacred, and now the nation is being massacred," he said.

At least 65 people were killed on Saturday alone after violence erupted at a demonstration in support of ousted president Mohamed Morsi, according to the health ministry.

"Those who remain silent in the face of this massacre have blood on their hands and on their faces," said Erdogan, whose ruling party has close ideological ties with Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood.
