President Donald Trump has signed legislation imposing new sanctions against Hizbullah, the Iran-backed terrorist group behind the 1983 Beirut barracks bombings.

Speaking Thursday at a White House event marking the 35th anniversary of the attack that killed 241 Marines, Trump said, "No terrorist group other than al-Qaida has more American blood on its hands."

Saudi Arabia says the country's powerful crown prince has attended the first meeting of a committee aiming to restructure the kingdom's intelligence services after the killing of writer Jamal Khashoggi.

Suspicious packages, identified as potential explosives, addressed to former president Barack Obama and defeated presidential nominee Hillary Clinton have been intercepted by the Secret Service, officials said Wednesday.

King Salman similarly made a condolence call as international pressure on the kingdom continues to rise, even after it acknowledged on Saturday that the Washington Post journalist was killed Oct. 2 at the consulate under still-disputed circumstances.

Cypriot police have said that most of the 29 Syrian migrants who have arrived to the Mediterranean island after setting sail from Lebanon told authorities they have relatives living on Cyprus.

Police said that the migrants, including five women, nine children and one unescorted minor, have so far made no requests for asylum after being taken to a reception center on the outskirts of the capital, Nicosia.
