Palestinian Dies a Year after Being Shot in Clashes

A Palestinian shot in a 2012 clash with Israeli troops died of his injuries in an Israeli hospital on Thursday, Palestinian security officials told Agence France Presse.

They named the man as Mahmud Waji Awad, 24, and said he was shot in the West Bank's Qalandiya camp, between Ramallah and Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem, about a year ago.

Arab Israelis Jailed for Killing Jewish Gunman

An Israeli court on Thursday jailed six Arab citizens for killing a far-right soldier after he slew four Arabs and wounded more than 20 in a 2005 shooting spree.

Three of the men received two-year prison sentences and the others got terms ranging from 11-20 months, documents published by the Haifa district court showed.

Israeli New VP for Science Project that Includes Iran

A Jordan-based scientific research project whose members include Iran and the Palestinian Authority has chosen an Israeli as vice president, the candidate's university confirmed.

Scientists from states participating in the project elected Eliezer Rabinovici, a physics professor at Jerusalem's Hebrew University, as vice-president of the Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME), the university told AFP.

Most Palestinians believe the renewal of peace talks with Israel was a mistake and over two thirds think the negotiations will fail, according to a poll released Wednesday.

Just over half the respondents -- 50.5 percent -- said the decision by Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas to resume U.S.-brokered peace talks with Israel in late July was a mistake, while 33.8 percent said it was the right decision, according to the Jerusalem Media and Communications Center (JMCC) survey.

NGO: Israel Turning Blind Eye to Settler Violence

Israel is failing to penalize Jewish settlers for attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank who enjoy "virtual impunity" from prosecution, Ramallah-based rights group Al-Haq said on Wednesday.

Israel Erects New Espionage Stations in Mount Hermon

Israel installed a new spying station in Mount Hermon (Jabal al-Sheikh), near the border with Lebanon, As Safir newspaper reported on Wednesday.

According to the newspaper, the espionage station includes advanced equipment that enable Israel to monitor Hasbaya, Arqoub, Rashaya, the Bekaa and several areas in eastern Lebanon mountain range.
