Palestinian Dies of Wounds after Demo

A Palestinian who was seriously injured by a rubber bullet to the head during a protest which erupted after a prisoner died in Israeli custody died of his wounds on Thursday, medical officials said.

"Mohammed Asfour died this morning after being in hospital for a long time after he was injured during a demonstration," a spokesman for Tel Aviv's Ichilov hospital told AFP.

Syria TV Shows 'Israeli Spy Gear'

State television on Thursday broadcast pictures of "Israeli spy gear" unearthed in Syria, in what it said was proof of Israel's involvement in the armed revolt against President Bashar Assad.

The broadcaster showed footage of rocks used to "camouflage" surveillance cameras found on the Syrian coast, as well as recording and video devices to transmit pictures and audio "in real time" from "sensitive locations".

The trial of a Hizbullah member accused of preparing attacks on Israelis in Cyprus has concluded with final summations submitted to the court in writing.

The court then asked defense and prosecution lawyers to clarify specific parts of their summations, which weren't read out or made public Thursday. The court said it will render its verdict on March 21.

Peres Urges EU to Brand Hizbullah Terror Group

Israel Fears U.N. May Leave Golan after Troops Seized

Israel on Thursday expressed concern that the U.N. peacekeeping force in the Golan Heights could pull out altogether after Syrian rebels snatched 21 of their troops in the ceasefire zone bordering Israel.

The soldiers, Filipino members of the UNDOF peacekeeping force, were taken hostage on Wednesday by gunmen who said they would be held until troops loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad pulled back from Jamla village in the southern province of Daraa.

Golan Apples Shipped to Syria

This year's first shipment of apples grown in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights has entered Syria via the town of Kuneitra, crossing the armistice line, a Syrian official said on Wednesday.

"International Committee of the Red Cross trucks delivered the first shipments of Syrian apples (grown) by our relatives in the Golan," said Medhat Saleh, who runs the Syrian cabinet's Golan bureau.

The ill-treatment of Palestinian minors held within the Israeli military detention system is "widespread, systematic and institutionalized," a report Wednesday by the U.N. children's fund found.

UNICEF in the 22-page report that examined the Israeli military court system for holding Palestinian children found evidence of practices it said were "cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment."
