An al-Nusra Front official has revealed that the Islamic State extremist group is plotting a terrorist attack in northern Lebanon in the coming weeks, As Safir daily reported on Monday.

The newspaper said the official claimed on his Twitter account that the IS is planning for “a huge operation against the Lebanese army” in the northern city of Tripoli at the start of the holy month of Ramadan.

Two people were arrested Thursday for using cameras near the residence of Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi in the northern city of Tripoli.

“Two people raised suspicions as they were taking pictures of the surroundings of Rifi's residence in Tripoli,” state-run National News Agency reported.

A number of inmates were stabbed in Roumieh Prison overnight, reported Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) on Sunday.

It said that Z. al-Bay, R. al-Hajjah, and A. al-Hajjah were victims of a stabbing attack in the prison after they were transferred from the Qobbeh Prison in the northern city of Tripoli.

An international military intervention is needed to end unrest in Libya, where the Islamic State group is gaining a foothold, Spanish Defense Minister Pedro Morenes said in an interview published Saturday.

"We went to Afghanistan to stop all of that from coming here, we are in Iraq, Mali or Somalia with the same objective. And now we have it nearby. Something may need to be done," he told the top-selling Spanish daily El Pais when asked if there would be a military intervention in Libya.

An Islamic State group militant has admitted to videotaping the slaughter of servicemen taken captive from the northeastern border town of Arsal last August, the state-run National News Agency reported on Tuesday.

Abdul Rahman al-Bazerbashi, 21, also known as Hafid al-Baghdadi, told Military Examining Magistrate Imad al-Zein that he has videotaped the killing of servicemen Ali al-Sayyed and Abbas Medlej, said NNA.

Libya's Tripoli-based government on Sunday called for an armed "mobilization" against the Islamic State group after the jihadists claimed a suicide bombing that killed five fighters allied to the government.

A statement by the Tripoli government, which is not recognized by the international community, urged "officers, soldiers... and all security forces and revolutionaries to mobilize" against IS.

Dozens of Tunisians held in Libya by a militia forming part of an alliance ruling Tripoli have been freed, Tunisia's foreign ministry announced Saturday.

"All the Tunisians being held in Libya have been freed. The final group was released today," the ministry said in a statement, without giving numbers.

Tunisia said Monday that it was negotiating for the release of 172 nationals being held by a Libyan militia as bargaining chips for one of its commanders detained in Tunis.

The foreign ministry's Arab and African affairs chief Touhami Abdouli said the Tunisians had been detained in western Libya by a militia that is part of the Libya Dawn alliance which controls the capital Tripoli and third city Misrata.

Three indictments were issued on Thursday against detainees held on terror charges, reported the National News Agency.

Military Examining Magistrate Judge Fadi Sawan issued the indictments against the suspects for belonging to a terrorist organization that was seeking to carry out terror attacks.

The Lebanese army announced on Monday the arrest of several suspected terrorists and fugitives in raids it carried out in several areas across Lebanon.

A military communique said troops apprehended Safi Sobhi al-Daroubi who is wanted for tossing explosives and using arms in the area of Sabra in Beirut.
