Suleiman Tasks Army to Determine Location from where Rockets that Landed in Hermel Were Fired

President Michel Suleiman expressed on Monday his “grave concern” with the shelling that took place in the Bekaa region of Hermel over the weekend.

He consequently tasked the Army Command “to determine the location from where they were fired in order to tackle the situation with the appropriate means.”

“At the time when the Lebanese political and security forces are striving to implement the decisions of the Higher Defense Council, they are surprised by the security operations, such as the firing of rockets, that have obviously become a way to create tensions in Lebanon and spread the crisis in Syria to the country,” he added.

“Lebanon will confront such attempts and take all measures to protect stability and civil peace,” Suleiman stressed.

Five rockets landed in and around Hermel, a Hizbullah stronghold, on Sunday, a security source told Agence France Presse on condition of anonymity.

"Two rockets landed in the town of Hermel, in an area between the Mabarrat teaching association and the Masharii al-Qaa area, causing no casualties," the source said.

"Another three rockets have landed now on the outskirts of Hermel," he added.

It was not immediately clear whether the rockets were launched from inside Lebanon or from across the border in strife-torn Syria, said the source, although state-run National News Agency said they were fired from Syrian territory.

Hermel and other areas of eastern Lebanon, a bastion of Hizbullah, have been hit by several rocket attacks launched from Syria in recent months.

The repeated violations prompted Suleiman in June to file a memorandum to the United Nations and Arab League.

No matter how many official complaints you have made against our enemies to the UN, they all fell on deaf ears .
It is about time to have a major house clean ourselves , place a decree into immediate mandate ...all members of Parliament including the current "caretaker " Governing bodies dissolved hand absolute rule to the LAF indefinitely until supervised elections as well as a referendum to oust ALL Refugees to the Israeli border , dismantle all 12 Palestinian camps reclaim our property back to the Lebanese & all Syrian Refugees to the Golan Heights / Israeli border ! Let the UN / HRW handle these problems with the Israeli Govt. as they did back in 1947 which approved the creation of a two State solution one been Israel the other been the West Bank , ok as a compromise we shall agree to the pre- 1967 borders but all Palestinians to the West Bank regardless of generation ! Golan Heights handed back to the current Syrian refugees & Shebaa Farms to Lebanon !
Signed Wolf.

Wolf, if already you are going to bring up the 1947 UN Resolution on the Two States in Palestine, remember that it was the Jews who accepted this resolution (in a lot less territory than was Israeli between 1948 and 1967), and the Arabs who refused it. It was the 7 Arab armies which attacked the new Jewish State on 14th May 1948 to attempt to destroy it.
So don't go blaming the Israelis for the present situation. Jews and Arabs (Moslems, Christians and Druze) could have been living in harmony since 1948 in the whole of the Middle East, not just in Israel.

Anonymetexas. Thumb up because you're my friend but you abuse of stereotypes.... The Jews were persecuted in many places of the middle east. They were massacred in the 19th century by Arabs.... In any case, stealing land is not acceptable. They should have bought it like the sursock family sold a huge chunk of land in palestine to the American Zionist foundation for a memorable amount of money. In any case, let's keep in mind that today's Israeli economy is similar to Cyprus or Greece.... They are suffering.... I can easily imagine a little war to appease the unsatisfied citizens.... Ils attendent que notre terroriste international morde à leur hameçon. It's a matter of time really.

Regards to all

I wondered the same actually. What you wrote is common sense.

Jews had live in Palestine non stop since the time of the Bible. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but there were always Jews in the Holy Land. If there weren't there would have been no need for a Balfour Declaration in 1918.
The idea put to the UN about a two state solution was made by the UK not by the Zionists. Remember there were a minority of Zionists like Jabotinsky who wanted a state from "the sea to the river".
If in 1947/48, the Palestinian Arabs would have accepted the UN plan then they today would have been living in peace with one another, in peace with Israel, and with a very high standard of living.
By the way why was it that no one between 1948 and 1967 did anyone ever hear of demands for an independent Palestinian State when the West Bank was occupied by Jordan, and Gaza occupied by Egypt?

Phil, the "if" you mention are useless. You use the past the justify today's atrocities.... Is it of any help to our societies?

"so how come there is something called the Jewish Diaspora."
There is also an Armenian Diaspora, (you should know that very well in Lebanon) , a Kurdish Diaspora, a Crimean Tatar Diaspora. but that doesn't mean that ALL of the inhabitants were driven out.
