Barcelona to host Real Madrid in 1st league clasico in October

Defending champion Barcelona will host Real Madrid in the weekend of Oct. 28-29 in the first "clasico" of the new Spanish league season.

The game will be played at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium because Camp Nou, Europe's largest soccer stadium, is undergoing renovations.

Bayern Munich signed Portugal left back Raphaël Guerreiro on a free transfer Friday from Bundesliga rival Borussia Dortmund.

Guerreiro joins on a three-year deal after his Dortmund contract expires at the end of the month. He will likely compete for the starting left back spot with Alphonso Davies but he can also play on the left of midfield and was also used as a central midfielder by Dortmund this season with some success.

German MPs approve plan to attract skilled workers to plug country's labor gap

Germany's parliament on Friday approved plans to attract more skilled workers to Europe's biggest economy and help address labor shortages in a growing number of professions.

Lawmakers voted 388-234 in favor of the legislation, with 31 abstentions. It foresees a "points system" taking into account professional experience and other factors, along the lines of systems already used by countries such as Canada. It will ease entry rules for information technology specialists who lack university degrees but have other qualifications.

UN puts Russian forces on blacklist for killing children and attacking schools in Ukraine

The United Nations put Russian forces on its annual blacklist of countries that violate children's rights in conflict for killing boys and girls and attacking schools and hospitals in Ukraine, according to a new report seen by The Associated Press.

Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in the report to the Security Council that he is "appalled" by the high number of "grave violations" against children in Ukraine in 2022, "shocked" at the number of attacks on schools and hospitals, "concerned" by the detention of children, and "troubled" that some Ukrainian children have been transferred to Russia.
