The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the short-list Thursday, which includes films from Chile, Germany, Israel and Lebanon. Ninety-two films were initially in contention for possible nomination.

The United States on Wednesday announced new assistance to the Lebanese military including helicopters and other advanced military equipment.

A would-be suicide bomber's rush-hour blast in the heart of the New York City subway system failed to cause the bloodshed he intended, authorities said, but it gave new fuel to President Donald Trump's push to limit immigration.

Tens of thousands of people have turned out for a Hizbullah rally in Beirut's southern suburbs that was called to protest U.S. President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
