A strike on a pro-Iran militia convoy in eastern Syria near the Iraqi border killed at least 14 people overnight, a war monitor said Wednesday, without specifying who carried it out.

An official of the Iraqi border guard said the trucks were transporting fuel from Iran to Lebanon overland through Iraq and Syria.

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Tuesday denied “any communication with any Israeli official,” after the website of Israeli newspaper Haaretz published a photo showing him and Israel's environmental protection minister along with several world leaders and officials at the U.N.’s COP27 climate summit in Egypt.

“A report is circulating in the media about the participation of an Israeli minister in a specialized workshop at the climate conference in Sharm el-Sheikh in the presence of (caretaker) PM Najib Mikati and the delegations of Iraq and Palestine,” Mikati’s office said in a statement.

Long-hauled carrier Emirates is buying five Boeing 777 freighters in a deal valued at more than $1.7 billion, further expanding its cargo flight capacity, the two companies announced Tuesday.

Emirates previously announced a $1 billion investment to its cargo flights, including buying two new Boeing 777s and converting 10 Boeing 700-300ER passenger planes into freighter aircraft. The two new aircraft joined Emirates' fleet in 2022, while the conversions are scheduled to begin in 2023.

Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan postponed the resumption of his protest march on the country's capital meant to challenge his successor's government, his party said Tuesday.

Fawad Chaudhry, a senior leader in Khan's Tehreek-e-Insaf party, said that instead of on Tuesday as previously announced, the march on Islamabad is now to resume on Thursday. He did not give any reason for the delay.

Assailants have fatally shot an American aid worker in a rare killing of a foreigner in the Iraqi capital in recent years, two police officials said.
