Syrian Stock Market Halts Trading for Assad Cousin's Company

Syria's stock market on Tuesday suspended trading for the largest cellular company in the country, owned by a cousin of the president and one of Syria's richest businessmen.

The decision by the Syrian Commission of Financial Markets and Securities marked another development in a deepening financial dispute within the Assad family, which has ruled Syria for five decades. Nations around the world have watched in horror and delight at the five days of civil unrest in the United States following the death of a black man being detained by police. But they have not been surprised.

In Lebanon, anti-government protesters flooded social media with humorous tweets sympathetic to U.S. protesters, using the hashtag #Americarevolts. That's a play on the slogan for Lebanon's protest movement -- Lebanon revolts -- which erupted on Oct. 17 last year.
