French President Francois Hollande and Britain's Prince Harry paid their respects Friday to the fallen of World War I, marking 98 years since the Allies claimed victory in the enormously bloody conflict.

Iran's semi-official Fars news agency is reporting that the armed forces chief of staff has criticized Donald Trump for his past harsh words about confronting Iranian boats in the Persian Gulf.

The Thursday report quotes Gen. Mohammad Hossein Bagheri as saying, "The person who has recently achieved power, has talked off the top of his head! Threatening Iran in the Persian Gulf is just a joke."

Kurdish militants attacked a government building in southeast Turkey on Thursday, wounding at least three people including a district governor, officials said.

The state-run Anadolu Agency said the office of the district governor in the town of Derik, near the border with Syria, was attacked with rocket launchers. But a subsequent statement by the regional governor's office said an improvised explosive device was used. It didn't elaborate.

A tram derailed in south London before dawn on Wednesday, resulting in "some loss of life" and injuring more than 50 people, police and emergency services said.

Emergency workers were still at the scene of the derailment in Croydon at midday, trying to free two people trapped in the wreckage of the two-carriage train that tipped on its side next to an underpass. The cause of the derailment was under investigation.

Police say 15 protesters have been arrested in Athens for staging an occupation at a site where a mosque is due to be built using state funds.

Protests were launched at the site two weeks ago but ended early Friday when riot police were sent to the area to make the arrests shortly after dawn. The protesters face charges of public disturbance and are to appear at a prosecutor's office later Friday.
