Whitney Museum Announces Inaugural Exhibits

The Whitney Museum of American Art will open its new downtown Manhattan home next year with an exhibition of works from its permanent collection, followed by shows dedicated to artists including Archibald Motley and Frank Stella, museum officials said Thursday.

Officials made the announcement at the unfinished facility, offering a behind-the-scenes look as construction continues at the space next to the High Line elevated park and looking out on the Hudson River. The new museum, the Whitney's fourth home since it was founded in 1930, is expected to open in Spring 2015.

Health District Briefly Closes Eva Longoria Eatery

Health inspectors say they closed Eva Longoria's female-focused steakhouse on the Las Vegas Strip after finding violations of food-temperature regulations.

The Southern Nevada Health District reported it closed SHe by Morton's on Wednesday. A woman who answered the phone at the restaurant Thursday afternoon declined to comment on the inspection, but she said the steakhouse was open for dinner.

10 Killed in Rebel Attack in Northeast India

Separatist militants opened fire with automatic weapons on Muslim villagers in remote northeastern India, killing at least 10 people in two attacks, police said Friday. Four people were wounded.

Rebels from one faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland were behind the attacks late Thursday, said L.R. Bishnoi, the inspector general of police in the Kokrajhar district of Assam state.
