Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir on Monday was quoted as saying that Israeli leaks about the indictment to be issued by the Special Tribunal for Lebanon suggested that the Court was being politicized.

President of the General Maronite Council, former Cabinet Minister Wadih Khazen, said after meeting Sfeir that the Patriarch also expressed concerns over the "challenges that weaken the Lebanese position at these critical conditions."

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun held talks on Saturday with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Syria on Lebanese developments and efforts aimed at ending the tensions between the various Lebanese sides, reported the Syrian News Agency, SANA.

The efforts are aimed at guaranteeing Lebanon's stability and security and bolster understanding between the Lebanese, it reported.

MP Oqab Saqr stressed on Saturday that the Saudi-Syrian safety net is aimed at preventing an explosion on the internal Lebanese scene, but it is not aimed at addressing every single statement that is issued.

"We believe that this net serves Lebanon's interest first and foremost, which lifts a great burden off the Lebanese's shoulders," he told the daily Asharq al-Awsat.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea is expected to launch a "significant" initiative towards supporters of Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun, prominent LF sources told the daily An Nahar Saturday.

Geagea is expected to make his stand during the Lebanese Forces festival honoring its martyrs scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

"It is important to adhere to a calm rhetoric as a gateway to engage into political debate in a calm atmosphere on how to organize a joint confrontation to the issues of false witnesses and the indictment," Jumblat said in remarks published Thursday by As-Safir newspaper.

The U.S. administration wants lawmakers to restore millions of dollars in U.S. military aid to the Lebanese army that they suspended over concerns it could be used to target Israel, senior administration and congressional officials told The Associated Press.

They said a review of the assistance has concluded its resumption was in the interest of America's national security and Middle East stability.

Free Patriotic Movement leader Gen. Michel Aoun on Friday denied a call for civil disobedience, but said Lebanese should "resist" if government weapons were turned against the rights of the citizens.

He said calls for civil disobedience would be considered a move against government weapons.
