Bkirki Spiritual Summit: Presidential Void Threatens Sovereignty, Security and Cultural Formula

Lebanon's religious leaders on Monday voiced concern over the continued presidential vacuum in the country and urged political forces to head to parliament and elect a new head of state.

“We express our concern over the continued presidential vacuum, given the threat this constitutional vacuum poses to Lebanon's sovereignty, security and cultural formula,” the spiritual summit's closing statement said.

State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr approved the separation of the case of former Minister Michel Samaha from that of Syrian security official Ali al-Mamlouk, reported the National News Agency on Monday.

Families of Hostages Block Saifi Road, Warn of Total Closure

The relatives of the captive servicemen blocked on Monday the Saifi road in downtown Beirut to protest the government's failure to secure the release of the hostages, vowing to resort to unprecedented measures unless the authorities take action.

“We will not stay long today but tomorrow we will move our tents from Riad al-Solh square to the Saifi road,” said one of the protesters. "We will not leave this place until our sons are released."

London Announces $1.5 Million Funding to STL

British Ambassador Tom Fletcher announced on Monday that the UK would be contributing an additional £1 million, around $1.5 million, to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon that is trying the suspects in ex-PM Rafik Hariri's assassination.

Fletcher made the announcement during a phone call with Prime Minister Tammam Salam, the British embassy said in a statement.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) reportedly warned a family residing in the northeastern border town of Arsal to leave the town as soon as possible or they will be executed.

According to As Safir newspaper published on Monday, the family of Ali Ezzedine, who was killed last week by ISIL militants, were compelled to depart their village after jihadists gave them several warnings since Friday, threatening to kill Ezzedine's parents, sister, wife and three kids.
