In the predominantly Christian towns of Marjayoun and nearby Qlayaa in southern Lebanon, daily life continues in the shadow of a war that devastated many surrounding Shiite villages during months of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.
While the two towns largely escaped the widespread destruction seen elsewhere along the border, residents remain surrounded by villages still bearing the scars of airstrikes, shelling and ground combat. Home to about 2,000 to 2,500 residents each, Marjayoun and Qlayaa have become pockets of relative stability in a region grappling with conflict.

Aida Jleilati and her daughter dug through the pile of rubble that was once their home in the city of Nabatiyeh in southern Lebanon picking up some of their belongings that survived a late May airstrike by Israel.

Iran's military threatened on Tuesday to respond to Israel after strikes in southern Lebanon killed four people despite a deal between Tehran and Washington ending the Middle East war, including in Lebanon.
"If the child-killing army of the Zionist regime does not put an end to its acts of aggression in southern Lebanon, it should await a harsh response from the powerful armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran," said the Iranian military's central command Khatam al-Anbiya.

Lebanon said Israeli strikes killed four people in the country's south on Tuesday as Israel said it intercepted Hezbollah rockets and launched raids, despite a U.S.-Iran deal that includes Lebanon.
Lebanon's official National News Agency (NNA) said Israeli drone strikes targeted two vehicles in the town of Mayfadoun and another in nearby Shukeen, both in the Nabatieh area, "leading to an initial toll of four dead" and others wounded.
