U.S. Adds 10 Firms in Malta to Iran Sanctions

The United States government hit 10 firms linked to Iran's shipping industry with sanctions on Tuesday, accusing them of helping the Islamic Republic's missile and other military programs.

The Treasury Department said 10 Malta-based shipping and front companies and one individual were linked to the state-run Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines, Irano Hind -- a joint venture with the Indian government -- and ISI Maritime.

Clinton in Malta for Talks with PM over Libya

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton thanked Malta for evacuating U.S. nationals from Libya at the start of the rebellion against Moammar Gadhafi during a visit to the island state on Tuesday.

The Maltese government "went the extra mile" to evacuate foreign nationals, Clinton said following talks with Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi.

Libyan Babies, Children Arrive in Malta for Treatment

Five sick Libyan babies and children arrived in Malta overnight Thursday for treatment at the country's public hospital, a government statement said.

The children, aged between four months and five years, arrived on a flight from rebel-held Benghazi accompanied by relatives. They were welcomed by Health Minister Joe Cassar.
