The Israeli military said Wednesday it had reinstated the Gaza ceasefire after carrying out a series of strikes on "dozens of militant targets" since the previous day.

"Following a series of strikes, in which dozens of terror targets and terrorists were struck, the IDF has begun the renewed enforcement of the ceasefire in response to Hamas' violations," the military said.

The Tunisian Forum for Social and Economic Rights (FTDES) said on Monday authorities had suspended its activities for a month, the second NGO hit by such a measure in the space of a few days.

An Israeli group campaigning for the release of hostages held in Gaza urged authorities on Tuesday to "act decisively" against Hamas, accusing the group of violating the truce by returning only partial remains of a previously recovered captive.

Gunmen killed at least two people when they opened fire on a coach along the road between Damascus and Druze-majority Sweida in southern Syria on Tuesday, state media reported, months after deadly sectarian clashes in the area.

France has resumed evacuations from Gaza, with 20 people arriving last weekend, diplomatic sources said Tuesday, months after Paris suspended the operation over a student evacuee allegedly sharing antisemitic posts.

Hamas said it would hand over another hostage body Tuesday, as the Palestinian militant group faced accusations of breaching the Gaza ceasefire after returning only the partial remains of a previously recovered captive to Israel.

Israel said its security forces in the Gaza Strip had received on Monday the remains of a hostage from the Red Cross returned as part of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire deal.

"Israel has received, through the Red Cross, the coffin of a fallen hostage that was handed over to IDF and Shin Bet forces inside the Gaza Strip," a statement from the prime minister's office said, adding that the body would be transferred to Israel for identification.

Israel said on Monday it had allowed a team including Red Cross staff, Egyptian rescuers, and a Hamas member to search for the bodies of deceased hostages in Gaza.

"The Red Cross, the Egyptian technical team, and a Hamas person have been permitted to enter beyond the (Israeli army) Yellow Line position in Gaza under close (Israeli army) supervision to identify the location of our hostages," Israel government spokeswoman Shosh Bedrosian told journalists.

Israel will not allow Turkish troops to take part in an international peace force that the United States is seeking to create to oversee the ceasefire agreement in the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, Israel's top diplomat said Monday.

Israel has lifted the state of emergency for areas near the border with Gaza for the first time since Hamas's October 2023 attack, Defense Minister Israel Katz announced Monday.

"I have decided to adopt the (Israeli military's) recommendation and to lift, for the first time since October 7, the special state on the home front," a statement from Katz's office said.
