Two Dead as Gunmen Attack NATO Trucks in Pakistan

Gunmen attacked three container trucks carrying NATO supplies en route to Afghanistan in Pakistan's troubled northwest on Monday, killing two people, officials said.

The trucks came under fire in the Wazir Dhand area of Khyber, one of seven districts that make up Pakistan's semi-autonomous tribal belt, as they were on their way to Afghanistan.

A Pakistan party which has been staging sit-ins to block the NATO supply to Afghanistan in protest against covert U.S. drone strikes in the country on Thursday announced an end to its campaign.

The decision of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI), led by the cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan, came after a local court ruled on Tuesday that no private individual has a right to block or check vehicles on roads.

Former Afghan Taliban Minister Shot Dead in NW Pakistan

A former minister of the Afghan Taliban who was in favor of peace talks with the Kabul government was gunned down in Pakistan's northwest city of Peshawar on Monday, Afghan Taliban sources said.

"Armed assailants riding on a motorbike shot Mullah Abdul Raqeeb, a former minister for refugees during the Taliban regime, killing him on the spot," a member of the Afghan Taliban in Pakistan told Agence France Presse.
