Arab FMs to Hold Syria Meet in Saudi

Arab foreign ministers are to meet in Saudi Arabia on Monday to discuss the Syrian conflict, the Arab League said on Thursday.

The meeting was called by Riyadh, which backs armed rebels in Syria, to discuss the "steps that need to be taken to deal with the Syrian tragedy," the Cairo-based organization’s deputy chief Ahmed Ben Hilli told reporters.

A Saudi woman was killed in a car crash in the capital Thursday as she defied the kingdom's long-standing ban on female driving, local media reported.

The woman, in her 20s, lost control of her vehicle and crashed into the wall of a youth club in Riyadh, according to the website of the local Al-Jazeera daily.

4 New MERS Deaths, 18 More Infections in Saudi

Saudi Arabia has announced four more deaths from the MERS coronavirus and 18 new infections, as it battles to contain the mystery disease which has now killed 121 people in the kingdom.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) after a five-day mission to Jeddah pinpointed breaches in its "recommended infection prevention and control measures" as being partly responsible for an increase in infections in the Red Sea city.

Health Ministry: No MERS Cases in Lebanon, Measures are Sufficient

The Ministry of Health on Wednesday confirmed that no cases of infection with the deadly MERS coronavirus have been recorded in Lebanon until the moment, reassuring that its preventative measures are sufficient.

“I call on the Lebanese not to panic over the MERS coronavirus,” Health Minister Wael Abou Faour said at a press conference, following media reports that a case was registered at Beirut's Hotel Dieu hospital.

The only known U.S. case of the dangerous Middle East respiratory virus -- a medical worker who became ill after traveling to Saudi Arabia -- is improving, health officials said Monday.

Saudi Arabia Reports 1 More Death from MERS Virus

Saudi Arabia's health ministry says one more patient who contracted the potentially fatal Middle East virus related to SARS has died and that 14 new cases have been detected.

The ministry said on its website Sunday that a Saudi man in his 70s died in Riyadh. It says this brings to 112 the number of deaths from the virus in the kingdom since September 2012.
