Greece, beset by economic difficulties and a migration crisis, will hold a traditional ceremony Thursday for the Rio Olympics as Brazil battles its own political woes.

Neuer Extends Bayern Contract until 2021

Bayern Munich has extended the contract of Germany's world-class goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, binding him to the Bundesliga giants until 2021, the club confirmed on Wednesday.

France to Extend State of Emergency to Cover Euro 2016

France's government will ask parliament to extend a state of emergency declared after the Paris terror attacks so that it covers the period of the Euro 2016 football tournament, Prime Minister Manuel Valls said Wednesday.

The measure -- which gives the state increased security powers -- was imposed following the November 13 jihadist attacks that left 130 dead and hundreds wounded in the French capital, and was already extended by three months in February until May 26.

F1: Women Drivers Incapable, Says Ecclestone

Women drivers are not physically able to drive quickly enough in Formula One, the sport's supremo Bernie Ecclestone suggested at a conference in London on Tuesday.

"I don't know whether a woman would physically be able to drive an F1 car quickly and they wouldn't be taken seriously," the 85-year-old told an audience at Advertising Week Europe.
