Sports Tribunal Backs Platini Suspension

The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) on Friday maintained a 90-day suspension from international football against Michel Platini, in a new blow to the Frenchman's hopes of entering the FIFA presidential race.

The CAS panel "determined that maintaining the provisional suspension for the remainder of the 90 days does not cause irreparable harm to Michel Platini at this point in time," a court statement said.

Honduran International Peralta Shot Dead

International midfielder Arnold Peralta was killed in a drive-by shooting in a car park of a shopping mall in his native Honduras on Thursday, police said.

The 26-year-old, who previously played for Scottish giants Rangers and was in the Honduras squad for the London Olympics in 2012, was assassinated in his home city of La Ceiba, police spokesman Commissioner Leonel Sauceda told AFP.
