Israeli Army: Syrian Mortar Fire Hits Golan

Syrian mortar rounds, apparently fired during fighting between government forces and rebels, fell in Israeli-held territory early on Tuesday, the Israeli military said.

The Israeli army said that an undisclosed number of rounds fell on the Golan Heights, which Israel captured from neighboring Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War and unilaterally annexed in 1981.

Syrian Soldiers Shoot Dead Child, Resume Bombing of Aleppo

Soldiers shot dead a child on Tuesday in Syria's Aleppo province when troops targeted the car she was in, after a bloody day in which 116 people, including 12 children, were killed, a rights watchdog said.

The young girl was in a car on the motorway that links the northern commercial hub of Aleppo to Damascus after midnight when the attack happened, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Brahimi Tells U.N. Council Syria Conflict Worsening

U.N.-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi told the U.N. Security Council on Monday that the Syrian civil war is worsening and the country faces a growing food crisis, envoys said.

Syrian Observatory: Air Strike Kills 3 Children in Aleppo

Syrian warplanes targeted several residential districts of the northern city of Aleppo on Monday, killing at least five people including three children from one family, a rights watchdog said.

The five were killed and others were wounded in the central district of Maadi in the country's second city and commercial hub, a focal point for the fighting since mid-July, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
