German Watchdog Warns of Internet Explorer Breach

The German government agency overseeing IT-safety is warning of a security breach in Microsoft's Internet Explorer and recommending people use other browsers until the problem is fixed.

The Federal Office for Information Security said in a statement late Monday the browser's "weak point is already being used for targeted attacks."

S. Korea's LG Electronics Launches New Smartphone

LG Electronics launched Tuesday its new flagship smartphone which will have to compete against a flurry of new products from rivals Apple and Samsung who currently dominate the global market.

The South Korean electronics giant said the new gadget -- called Optimus G -- would hit domestic stores next week before sales begin in Japan in October and other regions including North America in November.

Apple Gets Record 2 Million iPhone 5 Orders

Apple said Monday that it received more than two million orders for its new iPhone 5 in 24 hours, and that many new orders would be pushed back into October because of strong demand.

"iPhone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by iPhone 4S and the customer response to iPhone 5 has been phenomenal," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing.

Mexican Hackers Attack Political, Official Sites

Mexican hackers have taken over more than a dozen websites belonging to political parties and local governments and posted a message criticizing the government on the nation's Independence Day.

The hackers targeted sites such as that of the government-owned National Auditorium, the National Action Party branch in the Yucatan and the southeastern Mexican town of Macuspana.

Google has begun barring access in Malaysia to an anti-Islamic film that has sparked fury across the Muslim world after the country's Internet regulator lodged an official complaint.

The low-budget movie, entitled "Innocence of Muslims", has angered followers of Islam for its mocking of the Prophet Mohammed, and for portraying Muslims as immoral and gratuitously violent.

Apple Fends off Samsung Challenge in U.S. Trade Panel

Apple prevailed Friday at a U.S. trade panel in a patent infringement complaint filed by South Korea's Samsung over wireless communication technology for the iPhone and other Apple devices.

A judge at the U..S International Trade Commission, a quasi-judicial agency which investigates trade complaints, found "no violation" by Apple of the patents for wireless communication devices and tablet computers, said a statement on the preliminary ruling.
