Turkey's parliament on Friday passed a controversial law restricting the consumption and advertising of alcohol in the predominantly Muslim country.

The law prohibits alcoholic beverage companies from sponsoring events and restricts the places where such drinks can be consumed. It also bans the sale of alcoholic drinks between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Bosnia prosecutors on Wednesday indicted 12 people, including two Turkish nationals, of being part of an international criminal network trafficking Turkish immigrants towards the European Union.

The network, dismantled in late 2012, was organized by Savas Ereren, a 38-year-old Turkish citizen who Bosnia had already convicted of human trafficking in 2008, prosecutors said in a statement.

Turkish police have arrested six people for planning attacks against Syrian refugees who have sought shelter in border camps, a local governor said on Wednesday.

The suspects -- all of them Turkish nationals -- allegedly plotted "kidnappings and bombing attacks at refugee shelters" in southeastern Hatay province, its governor Celalettin Lekesiz said in televised remarks.

Turkish authorities on Tuesday charged the prime suspect in the twin car bombings that left 51 people dead in a town near the Syrian border, the state-run Anatolia news agency reported.

The man, who was arrested trying to cross into Syria along with two accomplices, is alleged to have purchased the vehicles used in the bombings. Four other suspects were also charged.

The families of the Lebanese pilgrims held in Syria's Aazaz region sneaked into the Turkish Cultural Center in downtown Beirut on Monday to protest the ongoing abduction of their loved ones, reported LBCI television.

They then headed to the office of the center's director, where they said that they would keep him locked up until the building is shut down.

A Brazilian and a Spanish tourist died Monday and 23 other people were hurt after two hot-air balloons collided in a beauty spot in central Turkey, officials said.

The accident occurred over Cappadocia's sculpted rock formations when one balloon collided with the basket of another balloon above and crashed to the ground, the governor of Nevsehir province, Abdurrahman Savas, told Anatolia news agency.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will sue opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu after he compared him to Syria's embattled president over deadly bombings near the border, media reported Saturday.

"We will not allow anyone to call the prime minister of the Turkish Republic a 'murderer'," Erdogan was quoted as saying by the Vatan newspaper during a visit to Washington.

Any decision on an eventual no-fly zone over Syria would have to be made by the United Nations, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan insisted on Friday.

"With respect to no-fly zone, I would like to make one observation: this is not a decision that could be taken between the U.S. and Turkey," Erdogan told a Washington think-tank during a trip to the United States.

Middle East peace will prove impossible without Palestinian unity, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned Friday, suggesting Ankara could help reconcile the Fatah and Hamas parties.

"The process of unity between Fatah and Hamas, this has to be achieved," Erdogan told a Washington think tank during a visit to the United States.

At least 10 people were killed on Friday in an explosion after alleged smugglers set a fuel depot on fire in response to a police crackdown, a local official said.

The suspects set ablaze an illegal fuel depot located in the basement of a three-story building in a small village near Turkey's border with Syria, triggering a strong explosion that also wounded nine people.
