Two Arrested in NY Synagogue Bomb Plot

New York undercover police have arrested two men who bought weapons in an alleged plot to disguise themselves as Jews and unleash a bloodbath in Manhattan synagogues, city officials said Thursday.

The suspects, Ahmed Ferhani, 26, and Mohamed Mamdouh, 20, both of North African descent, were also alleged to have said they would attack the Empire State Building.

Pakistan opened a 330-megawatt nuclear power plant built with China on Thursday, saying Beijing had been contracted to construct two more reactors in a bid to ease a crippling energy shortage.

A U.S. drone fired two missiles into a vehicle in Pakistan's tribal district of North Waziristan on Thursday, killing at least five suspected militants, local security officials said.

Bin Laden Journal Seized and His Slain Body in CIA Photos

5.3 Quake in Spain Kills 10, Injures Scores

Two earthquakes struck southeast Spain in quick succession Wednesday, killing at least 10 people, injuring dozens and causing major damage to buildings, officials said. It was the highest quake-related death toll in Spain in more than 50 years.

The epicenter of the quakes — with magnitudes of 4.4 and 5.2 — was close to the town of Lorca, and the second came about two hours after the first, an official with the Murcia regional government said on condition of anonymity in line with department policy.
