Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is feeling well after completing a fourth round of chemotherapy in Cuba, the leftwing leader said in a telephone call to supporters broadcast on state TV.
"I am finishing up here in Havana on the last day of the fourth round of chemotherapy and I hope it will be my last (round)," Chavez said Wednesday to socialist supporters who were holding an ecumenical mass for him in New York.

Twin explosions killed a police officer and injured dozens of others as well as civilians in Russia's southern city of Makhachkalay, officials said Thursday.
The explosions within meters of each other rocked the capital of the North Caucasus region of Dagestan after midnight and went off about 500 meters from the offices of Dagestan's interior ministry, a representative of Makhachkala police told Agence France Presse.

Typhoon Roke, which churned across the main island of Honshu and through the already disaster-ravaged northeast, caused flooding and triggered landslides in an echo of a vicious storm earlier in the month that killed around 100 people.

A top Pakistani military commander was shot in the thigh Wednesday when his helicopter came under fire near the Swat valley where troops fought off a Taliban insurgency two years ago.

China expressed "great indignation" Thursday over a $5.85 billion U.S. deal to upgrade Taiwan's fleet of F-16 fighter jets, summoning the U.S. ambassador and warning the move would undermine relations.
China, which claims Taiwan as part of its territory, urged the United States to cancel the deal and said it had jeopardized recent improvements in military ties between the two world powers and affected relations with Taiwan.

U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday warned that Iran and North Korea would face even deeper isolation if they failed to bring their nuclear programs under international law.

Riot police clashed with hundreds of Tunisian immigrants on Wednesday during a protest against conditions at a reception center on the tiny island of Lampedusa, Italian media said.
Police with shields and batons herded the immigrants into the corner of a raised terrace and beat them, forcing many to drop four meters into a courtyard to escape the blows, according to images published by SKY TG 24 television.

Detroit's WXYZ news said the car bomb was detonated at 5:41 pm (21:41 GMT) on Tuesday in the town of Monroe south of Detroit, seriously wounding a man and two minors.

British authorities evacuated a terminal at Manchester Airport in northwest England Wednesday while bomb disposal experts investigated a suspicious device, police said.
A man was being interviewed under anti-terrorism legislation after police were made aware of a "suspicious bag" in Terminal 1 shortly before 07:30 GMT, Greater Manchester Police said in a statement.
