but to be serious what you dont realize is that al nusra IS the main force on the ground since a long time, the FSA sucks up to it because it's nusra getting the big money and big weapons from qatar, saudi and the rest of the whackos. it's not the extremities "keeping" assad, it's the extremities fighting him.
