Beiruti. the american president is not elected by its people! he is elected by the college system! Al Gore won the election (in votes) but george bush became president! There is no christian president! The president must be a christian but he is agreed upon by regional and foreign powers that own their Lebanese politicians! Since the president has even less power now since the Taef Accord, it means the christian president is nothing but a puppet figure that can only cause trouble! The PM and Speaker are NOT elected in the same way and since the Taef Accord, the PM is essentially the mafia boss of Lebanon! He can no longer be sacked by the president! He does what he wants I.E. joining the islamic organization militia with out the presidents approval! This is why they don't care if there is ever a president! 50% of parliament is christian but only elected under Amal, mustaqbul and PSP approved lists! The president is a gimp and we are only sad relics of a once great Lebanon!
Beirut, not my intention to give u an american lesson but only highlight the obvious holes in the Taef accord! The President once was able to sack the PM and government... now the president is nothing! Whether u like or hate Aoun, he was right... This new constitution allows this vacuum. Previously the President would appoint a caretaker pm/president that could dissolve the cabinet and force the parliament to elect a president... now there can not be such an appointment and the PM can rule indefinitely with the same thieving MPs that only vote for their extension! Now the MPs can extend their own parliamentary term! This is a parliamentary coup! so why cant the military restore the real republic through a military coup? People are sick of a MPS that can only agree to extend their own terms but not resolve the trash crisis!
The initiative should be taken seriously and is a welcome break in the deadlock! However, the agreement lies among Maronite leaders agreeing! Humble... Its not your corporal that is against this initiative but also Dr Geagea and the Kataeb! So chill with your blame game.
not trying to personally compare the two. But a reasonable person cannot claim that both are the same... if ISIS was as powerful as hezbollah in Lebanon, then there would be full blown civil war with ISIS attempting to behead or convert every shiite, druze, christian and liberal/tolerant sunni! Lets all be reasonable about our comments! You might hate or dislike Nasrallah and hezbollah but comparing them to ISIS and Al Qaida? That is just silly. The hatred between the muslims is really scary and sad! Even during the height of the Lebanese civil war, there wasn't this kind of hatred! We are all Lebanese and must live together. The only good thing from the Lebanese war was the realisation of this truth! now many people are forgetting this truth!
The big problem is this intolerance and hatred is what these people want! Helps them get their foot hold and influence for gas and oil! The theory going around is that Syria is not about sunni/shiite muslim war but about gas pipe lines! Sounds about right when looking at Turkey, Qatar, KSA, iran and Russia so involved in this conflict! Yes they have moral, sectarian and historic ties to this conflict but more then that is the Gas!
imagine 1979... I'm not defending any "jihadi" group. Simply asking Pyjama who he thinks are evil Jihadis that deserve death and who do not. U know that apart from the kurds, the vast majority of iraqi and syrians 10 years ago, would have thought of themselves as either iraqi or syrian and not shiite, sunni or christians? I think that if the same amount of money, weapons and media pressure were introduced into any other country in the world, then the same chaos would happen! The USA could easily erupt. So too most european countries! This is a cruel game!
