Read this story in English
Please, join Jannah, Firdous, Gigi and I in the one million woman march on the Baabda Palace to protest this disgusting law and to install a woman president.
I have the utmost respect and admiration for Minister of State for Women's Affairs Jean Oghassapian for saying on Wednesday that dismissing the women's quota from the new agreed vote law was “the worst part of the election law.”
My respect for him is further exacerbated by the fact that he continues to be State Minister for Women's Affairs and fighting for women's rights despite this insignificant setback.
before being outraged about quotas, you'd better fight for lebanese women's rights first instead of playing the hypocrit pretending to care about women.... tfeh
so why has he not resigned yet in protest?
How these useless creatures hold onto power is beyond me!

Hariri: Women's Quota Prerequisite in New Electoral Law

Lebanese President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister Saad Hariri have stressed on several occasions their commitment to allocate a certain quota to women to support their active participation in political life.

The fear in Lebanon is that a set-aside of Parliamentary seats for women could lead to similar provisions for other categories, such as Christian, which would be destabilizing as well as besmirching Lebanon's international reputation, not to mention contradicting other articles in the Constitution, such as,
Article 7: All Lebanese shall be equal before the law
Article 9: There shall be absolute liberty of conscience
Maybe Oghassapian can start by letting a woman take care of the Ministry of Women's Affairs. What sort of a sick joke is this?
