I agree the prices of gas are too high in Lebanon. Yet again, if Bassil is concerned for the citizens, while they arent concerned for themselves, why care? i mean when youve got 3 range rovers and 2 infinity FX45, and you complain about gas, i wonder whos fault is it? specially that we musnt forget that prices are practically the same all over the world. Even in oil producing countries or countries that have reserves : Canada, USA etc... So switch just one of your car and buy an economic one , drive less your expensive gas spending cars around all day, maybe you'll pass the crisis.

he wants to get vessels that use oil and he want to construct new power plant that use oil, and he wants renovate old power plants to use more oil.
ummm we should keep holding on to our seats because fuel price are going to take us the moon. And trust me oil companies do not like oil prices to be high because that means less people buying oil.

High oils usage discourage people in using oil so they look into hybrid cars, and renewable energy. It is said that Obama is keeping oil prices high in America to encourage an oil independent economy. Now if you are CEO of a major oil company would really want your product prices to keep rising to a degree that it would not become affordable? So yeah oil companies do not want to keep prices because that will lead to lesser consumption.

I think you are missunderstanding what Lightleb is saying.

In Europe, they use high prices to make you drive less fuel consuming cars, or even using public transportation.

While the producers of the oil, are not always the ones "taking in " the increase in price-----) this results taht they do not want an increase in price as they do not benefit from it, they dont get the difference after the increase, but they get to feel that people are buying less oil.

What you are saying is that "even if you increase the price by 5000LL people will still fill their tanks". Every economical study on this field shows the opposite.

So Mowaten, in principle your economic theory is right, but not in this scenario.

ulpianus you could not described it more beautifully :)

and to add what ulpianus said, The high fuel prices will force people to find something else to power there home. Yes oil=bread like FlameThrower says but unlike bread there is alternative!! and as the price keep going up it will become unaffordable to do business. I am no economist but i am agronomist and i know when your crops (potatoes) are too expensive for the consumer to buy, you as the grower loose money even though people have to eat. they will just eat something else like wheat and corn. Like oil producers, if oil gets too expensive then people will just install solar panels and oil producers due to their price hikes will loose money. but right now solar is more expensive then oil.

Mowaten, I suggest you study the Swedish case with heavy direct taxes on the "bensin" itself.

The fact that public transportation is not working in Lebanon is a totally different issue.

Who the hell is he taking for fool. Gaze cars the holly solution probably from Iran, power cables and oil pump firms from Iran, Ships probably from the so hailed BRICS nations which are no less than a cordoned backyard of drug ships. Sorry for the so long desperadoes but we lebanese don't want war we're sick of it and we want to get rid of it i am a maronite christian and i like muslim sunnis as well as muslim shia along with all other sects in this country and i welcome them as brothers as long as they bare the lebanese flag. We lebanese don't care for the endless conflicts of the middle east. We want technology of the US Vodka from Russia, carpets from Iran and Oil from Saudi Arabia and we want Night Clubs and all the decent fun places. We also want to prevent our society of becoming another american Cabaret. And for all the Shiite of lebanon Karbalaa is in Iraq not Iran so get yourselves together

PS: more then 20% of European cars run on GPL (gaz) now so it's perfectly safe. and bTW why the Iranophobia?

the bonuses are true but the Hybrid cars are still more expensive then regular cars.and it's true that many studies shows that hybrid cars are also very polluting anyway it's still a process. and please Slash get a grip on your anger, any reason why your comments (even the non political ones) are so agressive?
