A clash erupted overnight between a number of youth from the town of Naameh and others from Harat al-Naameh which inflicted several injuries.

Media reports said that the argument developed into an exchange of gunfire and smashing of shops windows.

Al-Naameh Mayor Khalil Matar told Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) on Friday that “the clashes that erupted overnight had no political or sectarian backgrounds.”

He noted that the “clash erupted between 12-year-old boys.”

“Investigation is ongoing to determine whether they used military weapons or hunting rifles,” Matar said.

The army backed by the Internal Security Forces intervened to return calm to the area, and arrested those involved in the clashes.

“We want the situation to be handled according to law,” the mayor stressed.
