Qahwaji Warns Army Ready to Respond to Any Aggression

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Army Commander Gen. Jean Qahwaji warned on Monday that the military would respond in case the country is subjected to an Israeli military attack.

“The army has the full capability to respond to any Israeli aggression,” Qahwaji said after he inspected army units in Marjeyoun, which lies eight kilometers from the border with Israel.

The military “will not succumb to any threat,” he said, adding it will “immediately respond to any aggression.”

Qahwaji also visited the headquarters of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon that lies in Naqoura and the command of the army's eighth brigade in al-Zahrani.

He lauded the sacrifices made by U.N. peacekeepers, who are spending the holidays away from their families.

The army chief reiterated that the military was committed to the implementation of all Security Council resolutions, mainly 1701.

The resolution, which put an end to a 34-day war between Israel and Hizbullah in August 2006, demanded the pullout of the Israeli army from south Lebanon and its replacement by a U.N.-backed Lebanese army deployment.

It also called for the disarming of all militias -- an allusion to Hizbullah as well as to Palestinian militant groups -- and the prevention of illegal arms sales and smuggling operations in Lebanon.

20 minutes ago Qahwaji: The army has the full capability to respond to any Israeli attack. It will not succumb to any threat or aggression.

So comforting to hear. Yet, the army cannot arrest Ali Eid.

Thumb Mystic 23 December 2013, 13:07

Keep crying guys, the glorious army is responding to the real threats, Israel and the Takfiris, nothing you can do about it. Be happy now

Let the army return fire to Syrian bombs. Let the army protect citizens rather than itself. These high ranked officials tend to forget they are paid to serve us, and not the other way around.

Missing VINCENT 24 December 2013, 00:10

We would like that very much. But who would give a hand and aggressively support the Lebanese Army if we engage the Syrians? Would H.A. then attack the Lebanese Army? Mahada, mahada, mahada aaref imtoh la Lebnan. Certainly not the current puppets.

Move over Hezbollah : “The army has the full capability to respond to any Israeli aggression,” Qahwaji said

This means the resistance is no longer needed to protect Lebanon.

If Hezbollah objects to this statement, they would be the one who are "Attacking" and "Weakening" the army.

LAF becoming more and more an Iranian tool...

Default-user-icon Lebanese (Guest) 23 December 2013, 14:43

Cedre, if the LAF says it will protect lebanon from israel then that means it is becoming an iranian tool? What is wrong with you? Hizb el shaytan is indeed an iranian tool, or even more actually, it is an iranian militia but if a national army says it will protect the country from israel who is our enemy alongside iran and the KSA bandarists then that is considered a national duty.

Default-user-icon ridiculous (Guest) 23 December 2013, 13:26

seriously? of all the problems of civil conflict in lebanon and this what the army commander chooses to say? ridiculous! why is the army sounding and acting and siding with hezbolah in all things? a sad reality.

Thumb mckinl 23 December 2013, 13:33

Qahwaji is being overly optimistic when he says the LAF can counter Israeli aggression. The HA is still needed to ensure Israeli respect. Until Lebanon has an ironclad guarantee of safety both are needed to protect Lebanon.

The LAF is the only government agency that enjoys any semblance of support from all the factions. It must be supported to maintain law and order in Lebanon and protect the borders. The attacks on the LAF from M14 are just more obstructionism in fealty to the KSA.

Thumb FlameCatcher 23 December 2013, 13:47

And here speaks the people who attack others for "criticizing the army".

Before "ensuring Israeli respect", HA should earn the Lebanese people's respect. They lost all respect since the 2006 war. I'm not even going to talk about their assassinations ...

Law and Order is not the job of the army by the way. This is the job of the ISF. The army's role is to protect us from foreign attacks.

Thumb FlameCatcher 23 December 2013, 17:40

Majority according to whom ?

You admitted last week that M14 won the 2009 elections.

Many Aounies are even against Hezbollah and the MOU and do not agree or support Aoun's stance. They are more Anti-Hariri (like you) than pro-Hezbollah.

Many Hezbollah supporters also no longer want their party to carry weapons and fight wars. They just want to live their lives, have jobs and not be perceived as terrorists.

So no, Hezbollah does not enjoy the support of the majority.

Thumb cedre 23 December 2013, 13:51

HA needed ? All they can do is kill syrian civilians, even that they struggling and coming back in bodybags headless.
And that's all those iranian agents deserve...

Thumb Mystic 23 December 2013, 13:56

Lol after Hezbollah smashed you in Qusayr, they let the civilians go to Lebanon, even the wounded Free army men, so drop your bs cedre.

Thumb FlameCatcher 23 December 2013, 14:32

The same way Americans let Al Qaeda into the US to conduct 9-11 and justify their war on Afghanistan / Iraq ...

Bring the threat in with open doors. If the threat is not big enough, nurture it and fuel it by committing massacres...

Once again, it's all on HA ! They are fully responsible for this. Before that, it was Bashar who sent "islamists" to Lebanon. (PS : Hezbollah is an extremist, Islamist organisation too, no different from any other).

Thumb FlameCatcher 23 December 2013, 17:25

@southern : chou khass toz bi marhaba.

There is no link whatsoever between oil and weapons.

Those two issues are not related. The only ones linking them together is Hezbollah as another excuse to hold onto weapons.

No one tasked Hezbollah (ever) to protect our Oil. No one tasked Hezbollah to protect Lebanon from "Takfiri" threat.

The only legitimacy Hezbollah earned is to protect Lebanon from Israeli military threats.

Missing lappeaudecouille 23 December 2013, 14:47

Have you ever heard a fighter say that he would probably lose before entering the ring?

Thumb FlameCatcher 23 December 2013, 15:00

@Southern : HA doesn't have the monopoly of "WILL and POWER" to protect Lebanon from aggressors.

HA is in no position to judge whether the army is capable or not of protecting us from Israel.

The army command has determined it is capable of doing so. If you or Hassan contradict him, you are now the ones attacking the army and will be considered as enemies of the state of Lebanon and its sovereignty !

HA is now officially obsolete. Pack your weapons and send them back to Iran. They are not wanted in Lebanon !

Thumb FlameCatcher 23 December 2013, 15:41

As long as arms are no longer outside the control of the state, I don't care what happens with them. Melt the metal and sell it off if you want. Use the money to build businesses and an economy instead of blackmarket economy most Hezbollah members rely on. Then maybe you can generate income and pay taxes on them and be like any other law abiding citizen.

Iran is not the only state ready to supply sophisticated weapons. And we don't need weapons at all. We need peace !

And we definitely don't need money for the Oil project. It's up to companies to invest in them!

Its a message to everyone I think.
The message says we are protecting the border we have our own martyrs and will fight the Israelies if we have to, we don't need anyone we are the Lebanese peoples military arm.

what ft doesn't realize is that everyone is fed up with HA and their constant lies and threats and attempts to destabilize the country and and and...

You and your stooges think you can take on the army and the majority of people? Christian, Sunni, druze everyone is fed up of you.

My humble opinion is withdraw from Syria find a solution for your weapons (ie hand them to the army) and become a political group or you are leading your people into a losing battle. Your weapons don't scare the Lebanese anymore.

Default-user-icon Hammerhead (Guest) 24 December 2013, 02:22

President Sulaman eluded to our army being armed in his last speech and will reveal further developments later on.
Qawwali in line has started to boast of our army's strength before the fact.
Is it a matter of 'its all right boys, I have got the Southern border covered, just go on doing what your doing in Syria'? (HA)
Is there going to be a confrontation between our army and HA?
Fully equipping our army to be able to protect Lebanon has always been objected to by Israel.
Have Israel and the West now agreed to arm our Army because that is the only way to get rid of HA?
On a side note, Israel will not attack Lebanon and has never attacked Lebanon unless it was provoked. I say to hell with HA and arming the army, we are more in need of financial assistance to abolish our foreign debt and help in developing our oil resources for the future.
