Suleiman Gives March 8 Alliance 3 Days to Agree on All-Embracing Cabinet

President Michel Suleiman reiterated on Monday that he would form a non partisan government if the March 8 alliance failed to inform him in the coming three days about the result of its negotiations on an all-embracing cabinet.

“I had previously set January 7 and informed all the officials that I would sign the decree of the government in hopes that it would be based on the 8-8-8 formula,” Suleiman said.

“Then I traveled abroad and received a phone call that the March 8 alliance had reacted positively to the 8-8-8 formula,” he told al-Mustaqbal newspaper.

Suleiman said that he hoped the rival parties would agree on the all-embracing government particularly after the approval of al-Mustaqbal movement leader ex-PM Saad Hariri to share power with Hizbullah in the 24-member cabinet.

But the president said he was waiting for a final stance from the Hizbullah-led March 8 alliance this week.

“If the answer on the 8-8-8 formula was positive either tomorrow or after tomorrow, then this would be something good. But if its reply was negative, then we would go back to our choice of a neutral cabinet,” he warned.

Suleiman stressed the neutral government would be all-embracing but not political.

Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun has rejected to take part in the all-embracing government after he accused the country's top leaders of striking a deal on the 8-8-8 formula and the rotation of portfolios without consulting him.

He is now the last hurdle before the formation of the cabinet.

Asked about the presence of Christians in the new cabinet and mainly in the so-called sovereign ministries, Suleiman said: “The president heads cabinet sessions and he has the authority not to approve its decisions.”

“He can also interfere in setting the agenda and delete items from it,” he said.

“When he can implement the law and the Constitution, then he could restore a lot of missing authorities,” Suleiman added.

Dear Mr. President;

If I may Sir: Give orders to the 'Army" to secure the "Borders". Ask the U(useless) N(nations) To "Secure" the Southern border Ask, and I have to say how it pains me to have you "ask" the military to do your will. You know the problems of the North and you know them elsewhere. This is your legacy. This is where a leader of a country has a chance to hold his head high above the international community and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

puppet: "There are a number of Christian blocks". not really anything to compare with change and reform block, whihc has 29 seats mind you.
the few "independant christan MPs of m14" (LOL) who were elected by future movement supporters dont represent much of anything.

momo are you the_snores lawyer :-)

Mr snore, there is is nothing fancy about the Icon, and what you see is what it says… Aoun is a puppet and anyone can pull his strings.

Flimflam, Aoun drops the sectarian card constantly. There are a number of Christian blocks and and as far as I know they have not nominated Aoun as their spokesman.

I have a question for you… who do you light more candles for the cowardly Aoun, the butcher Assad Jr, or the Iranian in hiding Nasrallah… I am sure you love all of them… but which of them is your favorite?

Thumb general_puppet 27 January 2014, 10:04

ps… no one has ever taken Aoun seriously not even his partners in M8

flamethrower reported my comments and got them deleted for no reason other than they expose his FPM. Naharnet, what did my comment contain for you to delete it? He sits here and accuses people of reporting comments and I honestly believe he has no job except living here 24/7 reporting people who don't agree with him.

all the fuss of M14 during mikati government is that al mustaqbal is the biggest representative of the sunni and it has the most sunni seats in parliament so they have the right to be in gov not other sunnis
excellent apply this for all sects

also mustaqbal was not excluded from the miqati govt, they were asked repeatedly to take part but they refused because they wanted to boycott it.
